What an FDA warning letter is
The FDA sends a warning letter when it identifies what it believes are significant violations of federal requirements. The letter names the concerns, such as poor manufacturing practices or problems with claims for what a product can do.3
The letter gives the company an opportunity to address those concerns. The company can reply with plans for correction, which the FDA then checks. Where it disagrees, it can give the FDA its reasoning and supporting information.3
The FDA may issue a close-out letter once it has evaluated the company’s corrective actions and verified that they were made. No close-out letter is issued where the violations by their nature cannot be corrected.3
